What are they?
God's Little Ones are; Preemie Dolls, Micro- Preemie Dolls, Fetal models and Embryonic models, life size portraits of real preemie and micro-preemie babies. Prenatal development models, Pro-life education models.
Who makes them?
Each model is originally hand sculpted by a pro-life artist, mother of preemie twins who were born at 32 weeks gestation, now 9 years old.
How are they made?
The artist uses real children's photos, birth records, measurements and footprints for accuracy in scale, and detail of each model. She hand sculpts the originals models out of clay, sands and polishes them. The artist then makes a silicone mold of each body part and cast the dolls in collector quality resin. Each model is again sanded and painted by the artist. The sewing is done by fellow church members. This is a small home based business with a big mission. Because there are so many steps to making these hand crafted dolls, no two are exactly alike. No hand crafted item is ever exactly perfect.
Why do we make them?
These original sculptures are created, researched and designed to be used as educational tools to teach the truth and beauty of human prenatal development, for the purpose of giving Honor and Glory to God. They are made in loving memory and celebration of our tiny preterm babies, who touch our hearts and lives with their beauty, humanity. These modesl give dignity and honor to our babies in a time when many say they are not even humans. We grieve for the little ones in heaven and marvel at the strength and perserverenace of the "Living Miracles" who Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour has blessed us with.
How are they being used?
They are currently being used by; parents of preemies to show their miracle children how big they were at birth, grieving parents show their friends and neighbors how beautifull their child was even though they were born too early to survive, they were not too early to be loved and missed, a local hospital NICU uses them in their sibling education classes, a Dula uses them for educational purposes, pro-life educators use them to show the truth of human development. They are collected by doll enthusiasts, who love preemies, for their life like reality and uniqueness.
Where are they made ?
Each model is skillfully hand crafted and hand painted in rural upstate New York, in the artist's home, not in any factory. They are not sold in stores or any where else.
Why are they dressed?
Parents of preemies and micro-preemies dress their babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit as soon as the babies are stable. Parents of babies born too soon to survive, dress their babies for burial as a sign of love. We think they look warmer with clothes on and cuter too, like the little babies they really are. Dressing the models makes it easier to show children how they looked and grew before they were born.
