Preemie and Micropreemie Portrait dolls, Prenatal development education models and accessories. |
All models not named are portraits of real babies from photos in medical texts. Models named are from actual birth photos and measurements supplied by parents. Dressed models include Neonatal intensive Care style white hat, pink or blue or white shirt and white diaper cover. The process of making a resin doll is similar to making a porcelain doll, however resin is $150.00 a gallon compared to $30 a gallon of porcelain, and silicone is $250.00 a pound compared to $10.00 a pound to make a plaster mold. There is no profit for this artist in making these dolls, even before you count the hours of time that go into making them. The time start to finish to create an original portriat doll, make the molds for each part, cast the parts in resin, sand, paint and create the cloths to fit takes this artist about a year. The models below represent models that have already gone through this process. Each mold can produce only 20 dolls before it has to be replaced. These models are made on a very limited basis, basically when the artist has free time. These prices have been raised so that the artist can continue making the dolls because the price of resin and silicone has been raised. The artist makes the dolls in her free time. Her full time job is an elementary art teacher. The artist pays others to sew for her and crochet and knit. Silicone and resin are used because they are the only materials that artist has found that reproduces the fine details of the artist original sculptures. Resin is a hard plastic. It is the preferred material for portrait doll artist. It has the look of porcelain but is more durable and picks up the tiny details of the original sculptures. The artist makes her own silicone molds of her original sculpts. These dolls are not sold anywhere else in the world. During the process the orginal sculpts are broken. Silicone cost $150.00 a gallon. It takes a gallon of silicone for evey pound of doll. The artist is a full time elementary art teacher and mother of 4. She pays other members of her church to help her with the sewing, etc. . These dolls are made in their free time. The artist prays for and with the moms of the real child models. Artist does not charge for her time. Portrait sculptors charge over $2,000.00 for a sculpt and have a 10 year waiting list. Many items are too small for young children who might put them in their mouth. These are not toys. Please be careful with your little ones! Not for children under 4 years of age. This is a part time home based business. Most of the work is done by the artist. |
